This coin features the Haida Legend of Raven Bringing Light to the World, a beautiful example of Haida totemic art by British Colombia-based Haida artist Robert Davidson. The design is based on Raven, the Haida cultural hero. An ancient Haida narrative tells the story of the time when Raven took the sun back from the Chief of the Sky and returned it to the people of the earth.
The Haida design is the first of a series celebrating Canadian Native Cultures and Traditions. This series is minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
